What does your business/website do? For most, this is a hard question to answer in a clear an concise form. For everyone, this is a necessary question to have an answer to. Being able to clearly answer this in a convincing way gives you the perfect introduction to your business or website.
The goal for the elevator pitch is to be able to entice the person you are speaking to about what you do. What this will show is that you know your thing and are professional about it.
what makes a good elevator pitch?
Simply put, an elevator pitch is an overview of a product or service that is designed to be short and sweet, lasting roughly the same time as an elevator ride (where the name comes from).
Good example pitches will quickly entice your listener but also get them interested in what you have to offer and closing a deal with them. Here is what you can include in your elevator pitch:
Define Your Target Listener
Even though you should always be prepared for everything, you should know whom your target customer and listener is. If you are trying to target everyone between the heaven and the earth, you will most likely end up closing less leads than if you are focusing on a specific niche. Focus your pitch on the customer you want.
Being witty can help
Including a funny sentence or word in your elevator pitch that makes for a good pun can be very effective in order for people to remember you. Just remember not to take it too far or make it too far-fetched. People need to get it immediately.
Be clear…
Remember the goal of the entire elevator pitch. You do not have time to hide behind words but must make an impact right away. Think about what you truly want to say—and say it!
… and Concise!
I have had an English teacher in high school who kept telling me to be more concise. This of course got relatively annoying to hear but as I have come to realize, she made a very valid point. People do not listen or read forever. Shorten to the bare essentials.
Show genuine interest
Can you recall the last time you had someone pitch you something with genuine interest? Every time people have done that to me, I have always been left intrigued by their company or website. Take a leaf out of their books and be genuinely interested in your company and website. Being interested should be of no problem, since you probably are already.
start pitching!
Do you have an elevator pitch? How have you constructed yours? The most important thing about elevator pitches is to share them with the rest of the world. If you don’t have one, make one and eave a comment and pitch your website or business to try the pitch out!
